Of all the horrible policies enacted during Joe Biden’s short tenure as president—and there are many—the crisis at our southern border is arguably the most horrific. What’s worse, the media in our country are doing all they can to put lipstick on the ugliest pig brought to us by this administration.
The good news about the “nothing to see here” narrative pushed by the Biden administration and their propagandists in the mainstream media is that it’s easily debunked. Facts about the border are readily available for anyone who cares to look. That’s where nerds like myself come in. Real News Revolt was created to expose the lies of those in power, regardless of political tribe or any other partisan trait. I will certainly do that in this piece, but also a lot more. The use of words like “horrific” is not hyperbole. The consequences of open border policies truly are horrible, and if one has a humane bone in their body, they will demand a stop to them immediately. If you are a left-leaning person reading this piece and claim to support lax border policies for humanitarian reasons, hopefully this piece will give you insight into exactly where the humanitarian crisis lies and how it was created. If one truly cares about the welfare of the downtrodden, it’s paramount to understand the cause and effect at play.
Let’s begin by correcting the falsehoods being pushed by the Biden administration.
Claim: Biden is cleaning up after the failed policies of the Trump administration
There isn’t even a smidgen of truth to this claim. In fact, it’s so wrong and disingenuous that it should be insulting to anyone with a semblance of awareness of what is happening at the border. It shows that the Biden administration thinks so little of the American citizenry that they can make even the most absurd, easily disproved claim with a straight face.
The fact is this border crisis is entirely of the Biden administration’s own making, and Americans need to understand exactly how it was done.
In the final months of the Trump administration, border apprehensions began to surge because more people were coming illegally in the hopes of a Biden election victory. It wasn’t until the Biden administration took office, however, that monthly apprehensions absolutely exploded. When Biden won, people began coming in droves because they knew the days of strict border enforcement were over. That’s just a fact. Feel free to click this link to see the numbers for yourself.
The truth is Biden inherited a border that was largely under control thanks to strong, decisive and, most importantly, effective action by the Trump administration. In May 2019—the height of the 2019 crisis—140,000 illegal aliens were caught crossing the border. However, by November 2019, this number was down to 42,000. By April 2020, apprehensions were down to about 17,000. Going from 140,000 to 17,000 in a matter of months is not dumb luck, but rather damn good policy.
That damn good policy came in the form of Migrant Protection Protocols, which essentially eliminated fraudulent asylum claims at the southern border; asylum cooperative agreements with Northern Triangle countries, which gave individuals the ability to apply for protection closer to their home country instead of the southern border; and more construction of the border wall. The Trump administration examined our system to find the weaknesses being taken advantage of by illegals and addressed them directly. What a concept!
Every single one of these effective policies was still in place on Jan. 20, 2021, when Biden took office. With the stroke of a pen, he unilaterally reversed them in the first days of his administration. The numbers skyrocketed overnight as a result.
The truth is the polar opposite of what the Biden administration claims. The reality is that he inherited the most secure border in U.S. history, and promptly destroyed all the work that got us to that point. We are now witnessing the utterly predictable effects of Biden’s inexplicably stupid actions.
Claim: The Biden administration is working urgently to get the border under control
This is another demonstrably untrue claim that insults the intelligence of the American people
As soon as the border crisis worsened to the point that not even the propaganda media could hide it, Biden tapped Vice President Kamala Harris to oversee and fix the problem. Not only has Harris yet to visit the border to observe the situation on the ground, she didn’t even visit the Northern Triangle until June. Once she finally did visit, she issued a weak statement saying not to come to America because she “believes” they’ll be apprehended at the border. Kamala Harris is the Vice President of the United States. She should not be “believing” anything. She should be declaring that those who violate our sovereignty will be punished. This weakness only invites more people to invade our country, which, frankly, seems to be the goal of this administration in the first place. Extreme stupidity can only explain so much. At some point, one must suspect intentionality.
What passes for “urgent action” in the Biden administration is dubious, to put it mildly. Public calls for amnesty do not constitute urgent action, unless the goal is to incentivize more illegal aliens to pour into the country. Building more intake facilities is not urgent action, either. It’s quite the opposite. The message being sent is that our idea of “urgent action” is spending a fortune on facilities to accommodate the crowds coming in. It would be one thing if the facilities were being used as a humane way to detain illegal crossers until they could be deported back to their home countries, but that is not what’s happening. These facilities are simply expediting the processing and release of illegal aliens into the country. I suppose these sorts of accommodations are what the Democrat party sees as a win, but if one is actually concerned with maintaining the integrity of the border, it is not a wise plan of action. It only exacerbates the problem.
Our Border Patrol has loudly and repeatedly called for the construction of a border wall to make their jobs much easier. “Urgent action” would be taking their advice seriously and finishing the wall that President Trump started. “Urgent action” would be restoring the Migrant Protection Protocols and asylum cooperative agreements with Northern Triangle countries. You know, the ones that were demonstrably and incredibly effective. “Urgent action” would be untying the hands of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and other law enforcement to allow them to deport those here illegally.
But the Biden administration is doing none of that. In fact, in most cases they are doing the exact opposite. They are either too stupid to understand the consequences of their policies or they are willing to allow our border to be overrun to appease the far left voices who have been controlling Biden from day one. Or perhaps they see this as an opportunity to bring in a whole new batch of Democrat voters.
I tend to believe the answer is a mix of the latter two options.
Claim: The Biden administration has drastically reduced the number of children in Border Patrol custody
During an appearance on the Today show, Biden said the following: “For example, a month ago, we had thousands of young kids in custody in places they shouldn’t be, and controlled by the Border Patrol. We have now cut that down dramatically.”
This is very misleading.
While the number of unaccompanied minors in CBP custody has decreased, it is not the result of improved border security. As always, Biden is taking the numbers out of context for his own political purposes. What he doesn’t tell you is that most of those minors are simply being transferred from one government agency to another—in this case, CBP custody to the Department of Health and Human Services. But don’t expect Biden to tout the number of kids in DHHS custody anytime soon. That would reveal the shell game being played.
The fact is, according to the most recent data from May, more than 23,000 minors are in now federal custody, and more than 21,000 of those were transferred to HHS. Biden’s handlers know that most people will not look into how he arrived at his numbers. They rely on the ignorance of the public. The truth is their enemy, and that’s a very sad commentary on the state of our current leadership.
The bottom line is no matter which federal agency has these minors, they are still coming in record numbers and the Biden administration is doing nothing to eliminate the incentives for Central and South American parents to continue to send their children to the border. Until that happens, we will continue to have record numbers of kids in federal custody and the Biden administration will continue to lie about the true nature of the problem. Situations such as these are why Real News Revolt exists. If actual journalists had the integrity to scrutinize these types of lies, I would be enjoying a nice day of fishing.
Alas, it has fallen to the citizen journalist to circulate truth.
Claim: Problems at the border are due to the Trump administration’s refusal to help the incoming Biden team during transition
During that same Today show interview, Biden offered another excuse for his border failures that was a flat out lie. He said the following:
“Hey, look, here’s what happened—the failure to have a real transition. The two departments that didn’t give us access to virtually anything were the immigration [department] and the Defense Department. So, we didn’t find out they had fired a whole lot of people, that they were understaffed considerably.”
Former acting DHS Secretary Chad Wolf was quick to counter this lie with the truth of what happened during the transition, saying the following:
“What the president of the United States said is untrue, plain and simple. At the Department of Homeland Security, we provided the transition team with more than 200 extensive briefings on homeland security issues, the majority of which dealt with the border, immigration policy, and the processes and procedures we had in place to secure the border and reduce asylum fraud. Those meetings are available for any reporter or average American citizen to request via the FOIA process, and I encourage them to do so.”
“During the transition, the incoming Biden administration was made fully aware of the consequences of undoing the effective policies that had fixed the previous crisis and driven illegal crossings down substantially. They heard those warnings directly from career appointees, CBP law enforcement officers, and others. They disregarded those warnings and dismantled the Trump administration’s policies for political reasons. Now we’re seeing the consequences.”
“It’s also untrue to claim anyone in DHS was fired during the transition. Not only is this factually incorrect, but it is illegal to remove any career executives for 120 days during a change in administration. The Biden administration is not being truthful. It’s time for the media and other officials to demand evidence of these claims. The American people deserve to know the facts.” End Quote.
Not only do Mr. Wolf’s statements disprove the lie Biden has been pushing about a lack of transition briefings, they give us insight into the motives of the Biden administration. High-level Biden appointees were given in-depth briefings on what has been working on the border and why. These people knew exactly what was happening at border, what polices were effective and the predictable results of removing them. Yet they did it anyway. This shows not only an unwillingness to do what works at the border, but actual contempt for the country they’ve been tasked to serve. To have so much success to build on and flatly refuse to keep it going, opting instead to create a disaster and humanitarian crisis at the border, is worse than mere naive utopian ideals. It’s sociopathic. That is a strong word to use, but by the end of this piece you will understand exactly why it fits.
Claim: Illegal crossings have gone down and the problem is now under control
Again, Biden chose the Today show as his venue to insult everyone’s intelligence with another demonstrably untrue statement.
“Well, look, it is way down now. We’ve now gotten control,” Biden somehow said with a straight face.
Now let’s take a look at the actual facts. Nothing—and I do mean nothing— about the border crisis is “under control,” hence the word “crisis.” In just two months, more than 334,000 illegal aliens have been apprehended trying to cross our southern border, including 162,000 in April—the highest back-to-back monthly total in more than 15 years. That’s simply a fact, and the worst part is it only covers those who were apprehended. One can only imagine how many more made it in successfully. Those 334,000 are just the ones our CBP officers were able to lasso during the bullrush.
We do have an estimate for the number who got away, although it’s a very difficult stat to nail down and should be viewed with a healthy degree of skepticism. CBP officials estimate more than 170,000 illegal aliens this fiscal year have evaded apprehension and are already in the U.S. Additionally, ICE is cutting arrests of violent criminal illegal aliens by 50%. The list goes on.
These numbers show that our current immigration polices are objectively unsustainable. That is to say, it doesn’t matter whether you’re a die-hard Democrat, Republican, Independent or Libertarian. We simply cannot allow these policies to continue indefinitely or we will inevitably lose the privilege of having a first world country. For immigration to be a positive thing, immigrants must show respect for the rule of law. It’s what separates us from the third world countries these immigrants are fleeing. If their first impression of the country is that the rule of law will be sacrificed to meet the partisan aims of those in power, any semblance of hope for assimilation into the very successful American way of life is lost. And the sad truth is the Biden administration knows this and simply doesn’t care. The best interest of our country plays no part in their agenda.
Mark Morgan, former acting Customs and Border Protection commissioner, explained the situation thusly:
“From Day One, the Biden administration knowingly pursued policies that would spark this crisis, because it perceives a political advantage in importing hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens. The overwhelming majority are here to stay, as DHS’ own numbers show. This is by design. The administration has allowed its ideology to transcend common sense and its politically driven strategy to set policy, rather than what’s in the best interest of the country.”
Morgan went on to add:
“The Biden administration and many members of Congress refuse to be honest with the American people, as their failure to acknowledge the reality concerning the immense costs to our law enforcement, working Americans, or our communities shows—they just see an electoral goldmine. This crisis is not slowing down, and the facts make that clear.”
It’s a sad day when our national leadership would brazenly lie and sacrifice the safety, security and very future of the citizens they are tasked to lead. But that is exactly where we are.
Claim: The Trump administration had no plan for taking care of unaccompanied minors
Here is the exact quote from Biden:
“For example, we have—they didn’t plan for, which it comes every year, this flow, whether it is 22,000 or 10,000, they didn’t have the beds that were available. They didn’t plan for the overflow. They didn’t plan for the Department of Health and Human Services to have places to take the kids from the Border Patrol and put them in beds where there was security and there were people who could take care of them. So, there is a significant change right now, a significant change in the circumstance for children coming to and at the border.”
Again, Biden is playing fast and loose with the facts and twisting them to fit his own self-serving narrative. In November 2020, CBP under the Trump administration had fewer than 800 unaccompanied alien children, family units, and single adults in custody. There’s a reason for that, of course. We were employing polices that actually worked, therefore there was no urgent need to expand housing capacity for unaccompanied minors. Then, as stated repeatedly above, that changed quickly once Biden seized power. In March of this year, the number of unaccompanied minors exploded to more than 10,000—all thanks to Biden’s reversal of President Trump’s policies, of course.
This is a microcosm of the issue at hand, one that demonstrates the fundamental difference between the Biden and Trump administrations. Biden’s idea of “helping unaccompanied minors” is to spend boatloads of taxpayer money ensuring they have a nice place to stay. Trump’s solution was to enact policies that reduced the number of unaccompanied minors to begin with. Take notes, Biden administration: an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
While it is technically true that apprehensions started increasing in 2020 as growing numbers of illegal migrants gambled on a potential Biden election victory and subsequent amnesty, the Trump administration had strong policies in place to quickly and responsibly process and deport most of these individuals. This meant there was no systemic issue with backlogs or overcrowded CBP or HHS facilities. Biden is simply lying. So yes, while Trump smartly focused on reducing the number of unaccompanied minors in the first place, he did have plans in place to quickly process the ones who slipped through, even in large numbers.
It takes real chutzpah to break a system that is clearly working, only to blame the previous administration for not implementing policies to anticipate the current regime’s reckless behavior. I didn’t think anyone could top Barack Obama’s mendacity. But Biden is making the infamous “if you like your doctor you can keep your doctor” look like child’s play.
The true cost of Biden’s reckless immigration policies
Now that we’ve dismantled the stream of lies coming from Biden regarding the border, let’s examine the one thing on which he is absolutely correct: the circumstances for children and other vulnerable people at the border have significantly changed. Biden’s open-borders agenda is only encouraging more unaccompanied minors and families to make the dangerous journey to the border, creating not only a humanitarian crisis, but a windfall for the drug cartels and smugglers who profit off human misery, including, sadly, an ever-increasing number of children. And Biden is producing that misery at record levels.
As the great Lora Ries of the Heritage Foundation recently pointed out:
These vicious organizations are banking profits of $14 million a day, and likely more, from trafficking women, children, and families through Central America and across the border. Many of these women and children suffer from horrific abuse, malnourishment, exposure, and sickness along the route, and others are left to die in the wilderness if they get lost or can’t keep up. The large numbers of people surging to the border are a serious public health risk, and are facilitating the spread of COVID among vulnerable populations, and if individuals don’t catch the virus during the trip, they are likely to do so while packed on top of each other in overcrowded Border Patrol facilities. Children are often kept in these conditions for up to 10 days, because the Border Patrol simply does not have capacity to handle the surge created by the Biden administration’s policies. When they are sent to overflow facilities, the results sometimes prove disastrous, as well.
I wish there were stronger words than ‘ironic’ and ‘hypocritical’ to use regarding the human suffering being caused by Biden’s border policies, because the abject misery being experienced by those making the trek north is horrific beyond words. But those words do describe the nature of the Biden’s approach.
Democrats and their state media bombard the American public every day with proclamations of how the Left are fighting for the less fortunate. Democrats see themselves as a kind of Jesus washing the feet of the poor. That is, when they’re not portraying themselves as the David fighting the Goliath known as the “One Percent.” In reality, they are risking the safety, security and very lives of the people they pretend to care about by incentivizing these dangerous journeys in which children die from the elements, women are routinely the victims of grotesque gang rapes and even men who are unable to defend themselves are victimized by criminal elements within the so-called caravans who make the trip to our southern border.
Brace yourself, because the statistic I’m about to give you is breathtaking. In fact, it’s so shocking that I made sure to get it from a left-wing source, namely the Huffington Post, in order to preempt the accusations of bias that will surely accompany publication of this piece.
This is taken directly from the HuffPo piece and contains links to the reputable sources providing the data:
According to a stunning Fusion investigation, 80 percent of women and girls crossing into the U.S. by way of Mexico are raped during their journey. That’s up from a previous estimate of 60 percent, according to an Amnesty International report.
This year alone, immigration authorities expect more than 70,000 unaccompanied minors to come through the United States unlawfully, the majority of whom are from Central American countries of El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras. The number of unaccompanied Central American girls caught at the Southwest border has rapidly outpaced the number boys, according to a July Pew Research study.
Through May, the number of unaccompanied girls younger than 18 caught at the US-Mexico border increased by 77 percent.
But while many of these girls are fleeing their homes because of fears of being sexually assaulted, according to the UNHCR, they are still meeting that same fate on their journey to freedom.
Rape can be perpetrated by anyone along the way, including guides, fellow migrants, bandits or government officials, according to Fusion. Sometimes sex is used as a form of payment, when women and girls don’t have money to pay bribes.
The assaults are so common that many women and girls take contraceptives beforehand as preventative measures.
What’s particularly disconcerting is that the fact that these figures may not even represent the full grim picture.
There is one unit in Mexico that is committed to investigating and prosecuting crimes against migrants, Erin Siegal McIntyre, one of the Fusion reporters who wrote the sexual violence story, told HuffPost Live.
Yet, though thousands of women are passing through Mexico, the unit reported that it’s seen only six cases of assault against migrant women this year, which includes kidnapping, rape and armed robbery.
The issue, McIntyre says, is that these victims are too afraid to come forward both because of the stigma that’s associated with rape and the fact that they fear being sent back home.
“The very authorities who should be handling such complaints are also in most cases the ones that are tasked with rounding up migrants and deporting them back to their native country,” McIntyre said. “It’s very hard to get people to open up about stuff like this.”
This is simply stunning, and the fact that we are turning a blind eye to the mass rape of women at the altar of far-left open borders ideology is a stain on our country that will not escape the judgment of history, nor should it. The more we incentivize the mass migration of disadvantaged of people to head north, the more women who will be brutally raped; the more children who will be raped and in some cases die from the elements; the more profits for sociopathic cartels who use their money in ways that destroy not only the communities in which they live, but ones in our own country that were once thriving and beautiful.
The crowd who began the #MeToo movement seem to lose the courage of their convictions when it comes to the rape of poor women heading north. They have little or no interest in learning the plight of these women, much less learning the root causes of it. That would upset the apple cart of their ideology; force them to acknowledge that these unintended consequences are the result of their ignorant desire to turn America into the world’s biggest battered woman’s shelter.
Let me be absolutely clear: If you support Biden’s approach to the border, you manifestly do not care about human suffering. One cannot support open border policies and the protection of woman at the same time. That is not opinion; it is reality.
It’s only fair that after spending so much time describing the problems with Biden’s immigration policies, I offer a solution of my own. Otherwise it’s just complaining, and God knows we have enough of that in this country.
Much of the answer has already been given in this piece. Simply reimplement the Trump era polices that proved so successful in reducing border crossings. However, we must go a step further.
Firstly, the border must be firmly and physically secured. That means building a formidable wall while also investing in the tools that help our Border Patrol capture those who manage to slip through. For any solution to be viable, the border must first be secured to the fullest extent possible. Even amnesty RINO’s like Marco Rubio concede this very common sense point. Over the past few decades, America has served as a ‘release valve’ of sorts for impoverished countries. If things go badly, just head north. The problem with this is it provides no incentive for people to stay home and fix their own countries. If it is known that our border security and immigration laws make our country virtually impenetrable, foreign citizens to our south will have no choice but to fix things at home. This is a huge part of the equation.
Secondly, we have to address the “root causes,” as the Biden administration is so fond of saying. Except we need to actually address those root causes, not simply send an incompetent VP to South America asking people to pretty please stop coming.
For example, we send considerable aid to these countries. This aid should be contingent upon the receiving country’s willingness to address the problems that cause people to flee in the first place. Two big issues are private property rights and the rule of law. Anywhere the rule of law breaks down (which erodes private property rights in the process), countries becomes unlivable and citizens begin looking for other places in which to migrate. A common theme in the countries from which people migrate the most is the breakdown of the rule of law, corruption within law enforcement, etc. By making aid contingent upon countries cleaning up their own act and making the streets safe for their citizens, purging corruption from the ranks of police and other government entities and giving people the chance to enjoy the fruits of their own labor via robust private property protection, we can remedy the primary issues that cause many to flee in the first place.
Thirdly, we must be selective regarding who we allow to become US citizens. A secure border and strong enforcement of immigration law would make this possible. I am not referring to laws discriminating against particular groups of people based on race, religion, etc. What I mean is putting a vetting system in place that ensures we are receiving people who want to be Americans. If they can pass basic civics tests and are willing to demonstrate through hard work that they view American citizenship as the privilege it is, they should by all means become an American. Immigrants who truly appreciate our country and don’t take it for granted are often the finest Americans you will ever meet. We should always be welcoming to those who embrace Americanism, meaning the founding ideals that made us the greatest country the world has ever known. Mandated service in the armed forces could be a component of the citizenship process for military aged males.
A Big Ray of Hope
I realize much of this piece has been depressing, but you should know that there are rays of hope shining through the darkness—and they are (rightly) scaring the bejesus out of Democrats.
The most glaring example came just a few days ago, when Republican Javier Villaloboshas won a mayoral race in a South Texas Hispanic Democratic bastion, sparking celebration from the GOP nationwide and alarm from some Democrats.
Villalobos’ victory Saturday in Mexican American-majority McAllen, Texas, comes as some Latino Democrats say their party has been ignoring Mexican Americans in Texas, New Mexico and California as the Republican Party makes dents in areas once solidly blue. For those nerds like myself who follow demographic trends among political parties, this traction within the Latino community could spell serious doom for Democrats. President Trump did surprisingly well with this demo in his two presidential elections and that momentum seems to be continuing despite Trump leaving office.
It’s not just that the GOP has been gaining with Latinos. McAllen, Texas is an 85% Hispanic border town. In other words, the exact place that conventional wisdom has said Republicans don’t stand a chance. The notion of a Republican winning in an overwhelmingly Hispanic border town of 140,000 people was unthinkable just a short time ago. Now, it’s a reality.
Democrats are learning that not every Hispanic wants open borders. Indeed, a great many of them oppose it. Also, there is a great deal of overlap between the Christian values of the GOP and the Catholicism/Christianity practiced in the Latino community. The rejection of these values by Democrats have given Republicans an avenue on which to attack the amoral Democrats who can’t even bring themselves to acknowledge the existence of biological sex.
The bottom line is if Republicans can turn a Hispanic town like McAllen, TX red, then Hispanic votes are up for grabs everywhere. You’d be surprised how much can be accomplished just by learning how to say “these nutjobs want to put your sons in dresses” in Spanish.
It’s fairly straightforward. The Biden administration is lying to you about virtually everything related to the border and immigration and they show no intention of fixing the mess they created, which is to be expected seeing as how they refuse to even acknowledge their role in how we got here.
Additionally, the unconscionable treatment of women and children make it a moral imperative to fight the Biden administration’s immigration agenda at every turn. Their willingness to turn a blind eye to the victimization of vulnerable people on the long journeys they incentivized is as grotesque as the acts themselves.
Four out of five women are being raped on the way to the border. Many others are beaten. Children are dying. Fentanyl is coming through our porous border and killing Americans by the thousands.
Any allusion to the Biden administration’s ‘humane’ policies in the legacy media is far worse than mere “fake news.” It is a way of enabling the worst treatment imaginable of the weakest among us. This is NOT what America stands for. This is not who we are. Please give your friends and families the facts about Biden’s immigration policy and its devastating effects. Decent people must stand together and say enough is enough.
The major upset victory in McAllen, TX shows that the atmosphere is ripe to take advantage of the disastrous policies of the Biden administration. We just have to be forceful in getting the facts out there, without fear and with the courage of our convictions.
Things are very bad under our current president. We can either wallow in depression because of that fact, or use it as a springboard to make America red again. I choose the latter, and I hope you will join me.
